GIS-Based Identification of Suitable Locations for Algae-Based Biofuel Production in Bangladesh
GIS-Based Identification of Suitable Locations for Algae-Based Biofuel Production in Bangladesh explores how Geographic Information Systems (GIS), AHP and Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) can be used to identify the most promising locations in Bangladesh for large-scale algae-based biofuel production. The study proposes integrating solar radiation, temperature, water availability, land use, CO₂ sources, wastewater/nutrients, transportation infrastructure, flood risk and environmental constraints into a national suitability model. It also proposes sensitivity analysis and Monte Carlo simulation to identify robust priority zones rather than relying on a single deterministic map. A key idea of the research is that the best location for an algae biorefinery is not simply a place with abundant land or sunlight. It should be a location where climate, water, non-agricultural land, CO₂, nutrients, infrastructure and environmental suitability converge.
